Willis Henry AUSTIN47 (son of William Bryant AUSTIN and Angeline Nancy TURPEN)
was born on 20 Mar 1850 in Bedford Co. Tennessee. He was buried in
1907 in BETHEL CEM, GRAVETTE, BENTON CO, ARK.. He died on 25 Nov
1907 in Gravette, Benton Co., Arkansas. Obit of Benton co. Ark.

Austin, Willis H. (From Gravette) Willis H. Austin, one of Gravette's most prosperous
and prominent farmers and fruit men who died last week will be missed from the
business circles of this section. At the time of his death he was a director
and stock holder of the First National Bank. Mr. Austin was 57 years of age,
born in New Bedford Co., Tenn on march 20, 1850. he moved here when but a child
and has lived in the same nighborhood where his father located ever since. He
married to Miss Martha Sooter and to the union were born seven boys and three
boys, Silas of Grangeville, Idaho, Alfred and Judge. four girls, Mrs. Walter
Heaslett of Bentonville, and Misses Della, Eva and Verdie. Mr. Austin had recently
bought property in town and planned to move here about the time was taken sick,
to school his younger children. Besides his family he leaves one borther, Jospeh,.
and one sister, Mrs. Elbert Galyean. Rev. Wm. Edwards conducted the funeral
at the home and burial followed at Bethel Cemetery (Benton County Sumn 05 dec
1907 He was a Nurseyman in Benton Co ARK.. Gravette 1893-1993
Willis was one, if not the first, nursleryman in Nenton Co. he budded and grafted
his own nursery stock thereby adding improved varieties of fruit. He was awarded
a medal and certificate at the 1904 world's Fair at St. Louis, Missouri, for
an apple developed by him. It was named Willis Red after him.
His orchards ere the first orchastrfds used by the agricultural department in
that section for experimenting on effects of pruning and sprayuing of orchards
for crop and quality improvements. The machinery was based at his home.

Austin, Willis H. The large estate left by Willis H. Austin was divided among
the heirs last week. This includes some of the finest orchards in the county,
the homestead, and some town property. Mrs. Austin retians the splendied ol
home south of spavinaw, Silas, the oldest son., gets 40 acres of fine orchard
adjoining, Alfred gets the city property wit 9 acres in south part of town, Judge,
a fourty east of the old homestead and the girls each get fourty acres adjoining
the old home property. Silas of Grangeville, Idaho and Mrs. Heaslett of Bentonville
were here a few days the pasdt week taking part in the settlement of the estate
