201. Asher Alfred AUSTIN¹⁰⁹ was born on 6 Oct 1881 in prob. Benton Co. Arkansas. Alfred attended school at cottage Grove, Elm Springs, cornhill, University of Arkansas, and Springfield Business College in Springfield, Missouri.
He then went to Grangeville, Idaho, where he lived with his brother, Silas Austin, and family and worked in the Recorder's Office at $35.00 per month. He later came back to his father's farm and worked.
The young couple set up farming on the old Birkholder place which his parents had bought and farmed. Later in 1908 they bought 84 qacres in Maysville across from mable's parents farm and move there on Feb. 2 1909 where they lived the bqalance of their lives.
Alfred took down with appendicitis on July 17, 1914 and was operated on in early August. The doctor and family members took the back door off its hinges, strapped Alfred down to it, and performed the operation on the bqack porch. The appendix could not be found, sewed him up, and expected him to die. Arranmgements wree made to send htis sick man by train to Buffalo, New york, for another operation by a spefcialist which was performed on July 7, 1915. After sdurgery, he attained complete recovery.
Alfred and Mabel were industrious fasrm manager of their land, diary herd, sheep, and chickens. they started building their new three story plantation home in 1918 on the outskirts of maysville. Diring World War II the Austin dairy farm had Grade3 A milk.
Both livged to see their eight grandchildren and great grandchildren.
