Vina Russell McCurdy, 94, of Rogers, died August 12, 1999. She was born Dec. 1, 1904, in Gravette, the daughter of Andrew Jackson and Peggy Russell.
Mrs. McCurdy was a graduate of the University of Arkansas where she received her Master of Arts degree in 1967. A teacher at Droke school, she later was principal at Lowell Elementary and retired as principal from Rogers Ewstside Elementary School. She was elected to the Rogers School hall of fame in 1996. As a teenager she was elected Apple Blossom Queen of Benton County.
Survivors include two sons, Andy McCurdy and Bill McCurdy, both of Rogers; one daughter, Liz Means of Springdale; three sisters, Beulah Gillman of Carthage, Mo, Stella Botts and Bessie Borwn, both of Kansas City, Mo. six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Private graveside services were held August 14 at Rogers Cemetery with Rev. Jack Garner officiating. Arrangements were under the direction of Callison-Lough.
Memorials may be made to the Beaver Lake Literacy Council.

Rogers-Vina Russell McCurdy, 94 of Rogers died August 12 1999.
She was born Dec. 1, 1904 in Gravette to Andrew Jackson and Peggy Russell.
She received a B.A. degree in 1958 and a M.S. degree in 1967 from the University of Arkansas.
She was a former principaol of Lowell Elementary School. She retired in her 70's while principal of Rogers Westside Elementary School. She was elected to the Rogers school systerm;s Hall of Fame in 1996. She was preseded in death by her husband Jess R. McCurdy in 1947.
Survivors include one daughter, Liz Means of Springdale, two sons, both of Rogers, three sisters, Beulah Gillman of Carthage, Mo., Stella botts and Bessie Brown, both of Kansas City, six grandchildren, two great grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Beaver Lake Literatcy council, c/o Dick Trammel, First national Bank, P.O. Box 809, Rogers 72757-0809.
Private graveside services will be today at Rogers Cemetery with Rev., Jack Garner officiating.
Arrangements were by Callison Lough Funeral Home in Rogers.
