I haven't been able to find my Samuel born 1811-1812 Ala in any of the 1840 Arkansas census records. I know he was there because his sons JOHYN L and WILLIAM were born in Arkansas. John was born about 1833. A I have a story written by Gayle Adell Russell (daughter of Samuel Nicholas, Son of John L Russell 1833, son of Samuel Russell 1811-1812. I also have some pics as I said.

Leonard's recollections;
A.J.'s grandfather was Samuel Russell, of Rhea Co. Tenn. He wasin the war of 1812, and married Rebecca Litman, Oct. 7, 18094 Mercer Co. Tenn. In the history of Tennessee we find Samuel Russell was wounded by the indians in 1792, and his wounds were dressed y Dr. Daniel Rather. this is the same county where many of the early settlers of Benton County came from -John Duckworth, Abner Weatherly, William Gallion, William Parker, Elijah Buttram, Robert Gamble, Leonard Borrks and John Sullivan. He had a by the name of William S. Russell. There were many other families from this 1830 Census of Rhea Co. Tenn, who came to Arkansas in later years and wree in Benton County records of 1850-1860. Shirley Chang schang007@attbi.com says:
The Bell family is ruputed to have been Cherokee. The Russells served in the Cherokee Mounted Patrol and they were not of cherokee descent so the Indian connection must have come from the Bells they married. Barbara Holzrichter, 345 North Nevada, Wichita, Ks. 67212

"I think I should join in on this discussion so I can share with you some of the information I have the BELL side of Russell line. I have not been able to establish and Bell Native American Lineage. This is counter to all of the family lore of those descended from James B. and Susannah Lewis Bell. If there were any truth to this rumor, I doubt that it came from Susannah's Lewis or Todd line. As far as Samuel Bell, father of James B and grandfather of Mary Bell Russell, he probably was not Native American either. The earliest information I have on him is that he was a signee of a petition in 1772 to solicit the services of a favored Presbyterian mininster to come to Washington Co. Va. That leaves Sarah, Mary's grandmother. No data on her other than she lived with the family in Rutherford Co., Tn until her death sometime before 1820. At best, that would make Mary Russell 1/4 NA.
