Mattie E. Johnson-Rogers-Mattie E. Johnson, 106 of Rogers died Sept. 25, 1997 at a local health-care facility. She was born July 7, 1891, in the Georgia Flats community near Gravette to Andrew and Margaret Brooks Russell. She was a homemaker and sang in the choir at First Baptist Church in Bentonville for more than 60 years and also taught Sunday school and was director of WMU. She was a circle chairman and a member of the Dorcus Sunday school class and the Handy Craft Club. She was the oldest member of the church with a 65 year membership. She was preceded in death by her husband, T.F. (Thee) Johnson, one son, two sisters, six brothers.
Survivors include one daughter, Nadene Cowan of Rogers, fours sisters, Stella Botts of Kansas City, Kansas, Bessie Brown of Peculiar, Mo. Beula Gillman of Carthage Mo, and Vina McCurdy of Rogers, three grandchildren, four great grandchildren.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at First Baptist Church in Bentonville with the Rev. Phillip W. Smith officiating. Burial will be in the Bentonville Cemetery under the direction of Callison-Lough Funeral Home in Bentonville.
Memorials may be made to the Adult Developoment Center Group House, Rogers, or the First Baptist Church, Bentonville. obit. She was buried on 29 Sep 1997 in Bentonville Cemetery, Benton Co. Ark..⁹⁴
