At age of 16 (1849) James B. Russell was slender, stood 6'2", was dark complexioned and had "steel blue" (grey?) eyes: signed onto the Smith wagon train bound for the 1849 gold rush. He was kidnapped by plains Indians but escaped. They claimed him as "one of their own".

I've been try to trace the ansecrors of James Bell and I found him on your family tree. His daughter, Mary "Polly" Bell married my g-g-g- grandfather, Samuel Russell. I also have two pictures of Mary that I could forward to you. A distant cousin scanned them to me and he said there is a faded not on the back of one that says "Mary Polly Hubbard Bell Russell, age 96 yrs:. This is the first we heard of the Hubbard and we still can't explain it.

Russell, Olive (From the Benton Co. Sun), Mtrs. Olive Jane Russell, mother of Sheriff Andy Russell, died at the home of her son in East Bentonville last thursday. Funeral services were held at the family home Friday after which the remains were interred in the city cemetery. The Sun, with many friends, extend sympathy to Mr. Russell in his loss of a tgood, faithful, loving mother. ****Mrs. Russell was well known about Grqavette aqs one of our early settlers and good citizens. Several relatibes from here attended the funeral. The sympathy of many about Gravette goes out to the bereaved relatives.
Gravette News Herald 7 aug 1910 She was buried in 1910 in RUSSELL CEM, GRAVETTE, BENTON CO, ARK.24 When James B. went off to war, Olive took her son Andrew to Fort Scott to stay for the duration. She felt it was too dangerous to live anywhere else. She went in 1861 and stayed till the war was over. Richard Russell James B. RUSSELL and Olive Jane HORTON had the following children:
