MARTHA A. RUSSELL was born at Rocky Comfort, McDonald Co. Mo ZJamn 12th 1849. Was converted at a quarterly meeting at Center Point, this county, April 7th, 1867 and joined the M.E. Church, South and lived a consistent Christian until Jumne 25th, 1899 when she fell asleep in Jesus. She was married by Rev. Wyatt Coffelt to J. A. Fair, Marth 14th, 1869. Was the mother of nine sons and three daughters of whom eight sons and one daughter survive to mourn with their father the irreparable loss. Her sufferings were intense but she "endeured as seeing Him who is invisible." Her husband often wondered at the patience with which her afflictions were borne. The funeral services were conducted by Rev. H.D. Hutchinson, a former pastor. She was ever ready to visit the sick. Her neighbors loved her. She was a kind, loving mother as her children can testify. To her husband she was a help mate, a companion dear, who for more than thirty years trod "the rough paths of the world by his side, to his pleasures adding joy, subtracting dsorrow from his cares, mulitplying the hopes of coming years, dispelling the gathering cloud." Farewell for a while. By the help of the Lord we hope to meet thee again. Husband. She was buried in 1899 in BETHEL CEM, GRAVETTE, BENTON CO, ARK.. Martha ann Russell, mother of Hugh Fair was born in Newton County, Missouri at Granby, on Jan. 12, 1849 and died on June 25, 1899 at age 50 years old. Married Joseph A Fair in 1869. She was the first Worthy Matron of the Order of the Eastern Star which was chartered at Chalk Valley (Old Town Gravette) in 1890.
